AFTER 56 years, the Northern League Cup trophy was shining bright in West Auckland Town FC’s clubhouse as players, officials and supporters celebrated another successful season on the pitch.
West won the trophy in a dramatic penalty shoot-out after the final against Newcastle Benfield had ended in a goalless draw on Easter Monday.
The trophy formed the centrepiece of the club’s end of season awards presentation night.
The first award was presented by goalkeeper coach Craig Turns who gave a special trophy to Andy Coulson for turning up to every training session and match day, highlighting his fine commitment to the club.
Striker Amar Purewal picked up two awards – the golden boot for his 24 league goals in division one this season as well as being voted the supporters’ player of the year.
Steven Snaith won the accolade for goal of the season for his outstanding 83rd minute strike against Avro in the FA Vase third round back in December.
And Tom Price rounded off the night by taking home three awards – players’ player of the year, the manager’s player of the year and the overall player of the year chosen by the club committee.
