Millie England to take on Great North challenge for charity
Millie England will take part in the Mini 50 at this weekend’s Great North Run to raise money for two charities that are very close to her heart.
Born three-and-a-half months premature almost five years ago, Millie has cerebral palsy but has proven time and again that she boasts a supreme fighting spirit.
Now she’s all set to take her place in one of the Great North Run events taking place on the Quayside, in Newcastle, today.
All funds raised by Millie, who lives in Winston with her parents Anna and Michael, will go to Gainford Primary School and the Little SENDsations, a County Durham-based charity that helps children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
The Mini 50 tales place over a 50m course for children aged three-16 who wouldn’t ordinarily be able to participate in the junior and mini age group events due to their specific needs.
Millie’s parents will be helping her to take part in the event so she can raise as much money as possible.
“We’re just so grateful for everybody who has helped Millie have an able-bodied life as much as she can,” Anna told the Mercury.
“Gainford Primary School have been absolutely fantastic since she started nursery, she’s come on a lot since then, and she’s now in reception.
“We hope to raise money to pay for a bus for a school trip or something similar.”
Millie, who will be five next month, and her parents are consistently raising money for charity and they recently dropped off care packages for mothers with premature babies at the special care baby unit (SCBU) at Darlington Memorial Hospital.
“We usually raise funds for Darlington Hospital SCBU and I make up prem baby care packages which include small nappies and goodies for the mummies.
“Also, Tesco have given us money so we can buy a coffee machine for the parents and that will save them a lot of money, we wanted to take that expense away from parents.”
Michael knows all about hot drinks because his mobile business, named Millie Moo’s Roasts in honour of is daughter, is parked in the lay-by on the A67 at Winston.
