Evenwood runners take on famous Blaydon Race

Evenwood's athletes

Evenwood Road Runners turned out in force for the famous and historic Blaydon Race on Sunday, June 9 (pictured above).

The Blaydon Race was first held as a point-to-point in 1811 and revived in modern times in 1981.

The 5.8 mile route is based on the lyrics to the 1862 song by Geordie Ridley “The Blaydon Races” . It began on the quayside at Newcatle, going down the Scotswood Road and finishing in Blaydon.
