Evenwood keeping promotion hopes alive

Division Two -Murton v Evenwood
Evenwood won the toss at Murton and decided to bat. Owen Peddelty scored 67 and Risira Lakvin Weerasuriya scored 43 as the visitors posted 205-7.
Thomas Teesdale stepped up to do the damage as the home side were reduced to 16-4 and 56-5.
Teesdale claimed four of the first five wickets to fall on his way to figures of 4-35 while Jamie Lamb (2-13) took the other.
Daniel Wilkinson (2-13) and Rhys Peairs(3-11) then came to the party to clean out the five remaining batsmen as Murton were bowled out for 98 inside 28 overs.
The win means Evenwood stay second in Division Two on 235 points, 14 behind leaders Marsden and ahead of Mainsforth, who also have 235 points.
It’s shaping up to be a three-way battle for the two promotion places.

Division Six – Evenwood II v Murton II
Matthew Baldock took 5-24 in eight overs as Murton Seconds were bowled out for 101.
Joseph Brunton (2-12) and Mark Gallagher (2-27) also made important contributions with the ball. Brunton, 17, then took it upon himself to get the runs required for victory, smashing 88 not out off 45 balls while his opening partner Baldock (five not out) had the best view in the house.
Evenwood wrapped up the win in just 71 balls.

Barningham v Middleton St George
Middleton won the toss and inserted Barningham, who didn’t do themselves justice with the bat and were bowled out with nine balls to spare.
Keeper-batsman Gary Walker top scored with 41 off 20 balls but his effort was in vain as Middleton reached the victory target in 18 overs with Chris Peacock scoring 52 not out.

Eryholme v Barningham
A knock of 48 off 27 balls from opener Sam Metcalfe and a useful 36 from Rob Stanwix were the backbone of Barningham’s total of 166-9.
Metcalfe then took 4-14 and Carl Irving 3-24 as Eryholme were bowled out for 132.

Barton v Raby Castle
Raby consolidated their position at the top of the table with a convincing win at Barton.
Batting first, Raby put on 194-6, a total built around Matt Dent’s unbeaten 80 and 53 from skipper Gareth Walton.
In return, Barton scored 157-9, with Dent and James Forster both picking up three wickets.
It was a great day for the Bird family as Joseph and George both made their first team debuts playing alongside dad Chris. The win leaves Raby 23 points clear of Haughton in second place.

Haughton v Aldbrough St John
Aldbrough did Raby Castle a favour by beating title-chasing Haughton and also gave their own chances of mounting a push for the title a shot in the arm.
Winning the toss Aldbrough elected to bat, the visitors scored 139 all out in a scrappy batting display. Jack Bailey (35) and Oscar Usher (25) made vital middle-order runs for Aldbrough, while Sam Newton took 6-24 for Haughton.
The hosts will have fancied their chances of chasing down the target but the bowling was too good for them and they were skittled for 111.
Matthew Brown took an impressive 4-14 in ten ultra-tight overs that included seven maidens, while Max Riley-Fox took 2-18 and Kieran Vickers 3-17.

Witton-le-Wear v Barningham
Chris Wearmouth took 4-14 and Joe Blackburn 4-32 as Witton-le-Wear were bowled out for 111.
Barningham needed just 19 overs to reach the target and Gary Walker top scored with 34 off 17.

Cockerton 198-9 (40 overs) lost to Cliffe 202-7 (37 overs) by 3 wickets
Division B – Cliffe II v Shildon Railway II
A 106-run first wicket stand between Ben Wilson (50) and Stephen King (56) gave Cliffe Seconds a solid foundation for what turned out to be a match-winning 222-8.
Richard Adamson took five for 15 as Shildon were bowled for 130.

Eryholme II v Middleton-in-Teesdale
Anthony Coatsworth scored 75 as Middleton scored 171 all out. It wasn’t enough and the hosts wrapped up the win in 38 overs. Ben Wicling took 3-36 for Middleton.

Raby Castle II v Haughton II
Raby Seconds were a scratch mix of veterans and juniors but narrowly missed out on victory in a run-fest.
Haughton Seconds batted first and scored 220-2. Raby scored 211-7 in reply with junior Harry Davison scoring 84 on his first ever senior league game. Oliver Clark scored 29 not out and Ben Stobart contributed 16.

David Wilson and Charlie Beadle scored 39 apiece and Richard Wilson added 32 as Aldbrough Seconds posted 182. Wilson then took 4-22 as Cockerton Seconds were bowled out for 131.
