CAN there be such a thing as an unlucky 4-0 defeat?
Perhaps not, but Bowes FC’s Sunday outfit can be proud of their efforts against a higher ranked and well drilled Perth Green Red Hackle side, from Jarrow, in the Durham FA cup.
Bowes more than held their own in midfield and created plenty of chances. Had early pressure been translated into at least one goal, the outcome might have been different.
As it was, Perth Green converted the only two chances they created in the first 45 minutes to go into the interval in the lead.
The game was up for Bowes when, after Tom Merryweather’s header had been saved, Perth Green broke straight down the pitch and scored a third, adding another to give the score a somewhat flattering look.
Elsewhere on Sunday, Toft Hill Three Tuns’ unbeaten run continued, this time with a 6-0 rout of lowly BA Snooker, goals coming from Nigel Beckley (2), Kieron Conroy, Jonathan Raine, Wayne King and Colin Welsh.
A hat-trick from striker Ben Goodfellow helped Staindrop to a 4-2 home win against dale rivals Gainford.
Sam Hicks added the host’s other, while James Readman and Robert Maddison were on target for Gainford.

Crook and District League
GLAXO Rangers came up short against Bishop Pavilion for the second week in a row.
Having lost out 2-1 in the Durham Minor Cup seven days earlier, this time Pavilion ran out 2-0 winners in the Auckland Charity Cup.
In another tight game, there was nothing to separate the teams at half time.
However, as the second period progressed, Pavilion took the upper hand and made to the semi-finals with goals from James Campion and Andy Howard.
In the league, Bowes hammered Heighington 7-0. Tommy Hutchinson bagged a hat-trick and other came from Matthew Northey, Simon Rathbone, Rob Dixon and Tom Merryweather. Redwell Rangers’ trip to Stanhope Town was postponed.
This Saturday’s fixtures see Glaxo host Heighington while Evenwood welcome Redwell Rangers to the Randolph Social Welfare Ground.
