Trust’s top tips for dogs during fireworks

KEEP CALM AND CARRY ON: Rachael Marley from the Dogs Trust offered helpful hints to keep pets calm

HELPFUL hints on how to keep four legged friends calm during firework season were gratefully received when the Dogs Trust visited Barnard Castle.
The charity, which provides advice, subsidised dog training and rehoming services, handed out information on how best to protect pets from the effects of pyrotechnics after taking a stall on the town’s weekly market.
Rachael Marley, Dogs Trust community engagement officer for the north east, said noise-related fear is common in dogs and can have a significant impact on their wellbeing, sometimes altering their behaviour.
She added: “It’s been really busy and there have been lots of people stopping and picking up information. I actually ran out of some leaflets.
“If we can prevent people coming to us because of behaviour problems in their pets that’s good.”
The Dogs Trust will be back in Barnard Castle on Tuesday, November 1, in the castle grounds between 10.30am and 2pm when they will be carrying out a pet survey asking dog owners how and what they do during firework season.
