The day Prince Charles came to town… Heir to the throne wows the crowds in Barney

Prince Charles meets retained firefighter (and butcher) Stuart Mcfarlane

ENTHUSIASTIC crowds lined the streets to welcome Prince Charles to Teesdale to give its new emergency services hub the royal seal of approval.

Children and parents chatted to The Prince of Wales outside the £4million hub on Wilson Street, in Barnard Castle, before he made his way inside to meet officials from fire, police, ambulance and mountain rescue teams.

The heir to the throne then returned to the warmth of the building to unveil a plaque before heading off to The Bowes Museum where he watched the silver swan and cast his eye over the museum’s paintings.

People were pleased with how much time Prince Charles took over talking to youngsters and visitors who had excitedly awaited his arrival in the cold.

A full round-up of interviews and many more photos of the day in next week’s Teesdale Mercury.
