A FIFTIETH birthday refit for Barney’s longest-established charity shop will take place this month along with essential building repairs.
Oxfam first opened its doors in Barnard Castle in 1973 and has been raising funds to combat poverty worldwide ever since.
After five decades though the popular shop, in Horsemarket, needs a little tender loving care. It is set to undergo a refurbishment, expected to take about two weeks to complete, beginning on Friday, August 7. Shop manager Naila Laundy said: “The building needs essential repairs because of wear and tear.
“We are taking that time to refresh the shop and make it a bit more customer friendly.”
She added: “The shop size will remain the same but we will be making a few changes, moving things around, a little bit.
“We are hoping for all the work to be done in a couple of weeks and we will keep everyone updated through our Facebook page.”
Customers are asked to hold on to any donations for the shop until the work has been completed.
She added: “We are still in need of volunteers and we’ll be taking the time while the work is carried out to set up online meetings to explain the role.”
