It’s a Knockout to be ‘bigger and better and hopefully rain-free’

FAB DAY OUT: Action from last year's event on The Demesnes

ORGANISERS of a charity fun day featuring an It’s a Knockout competition are pulling out the stops to make the third annual event bigger and better.

The Clique, the Barnard Castle-based charity which organises events for local good causes, has previously staged the popular fun day in July, but after two consecutive years of unseasonal downpours have decided to move the date.

David Harper, from the Clique, said: “The date isn’t that important to us and we have been washed out for the last two years, so we thought we’d bring it forward a month and see how we fare.”

He added preparations are well underway and already 20 teams representing sports, clubs, pubs and businesses have signed up.

He said: “It’s great to have such brilliant support and lots of teams who have competed before have already signed up and there are lots of new ones as well.”

This year teams will battle it out for the title on Saturday, June 22, from noon on the rugby pitches on the upper Demesnes, Barnard Castle.

In addition to the competition there will be bouncy castles, food stalls and a licensed bar. In the evening after the competition there will be live music from local bands, The Band and Geriatrics and the Pacemakers, as well as a disco from local DJ Andrew Nicholson.

Entry to the It’s a Knockout is £3 for adults and £2 for children, which includes access to bouncy castle for the entire day.

Mr Harper added: “It’s a great day out for the family and if anyone wants to bring a hamper and have a picnic that’s great, but not to bring alcohol as the way we raise funds is through the bar.

“Everything the Clique raises we give back to the community.”
