SIXTH formers at Teesdale School are heading back into the kitchen for another pop-up fundraising dining experience.

Last December, Grace Perkins, Evie Arundel and James Cuthbert, cooked up a sit down three-course menu which proved a sell-out and raised £1,300 for the TCR Hub’s food support scheme.

This year the trio, who have been joined by fellow sixth former Ryan Adams, are organising a pizza night with quiz and music.

This time the money will go to support the fundraising efforts of Teesdale School’s head of food technology Katie Swinburne, who was diagnosed with invasive lobular breast cancer earlier this year.

Mrs Swinburne has raised more than £4,000 towards a £20m appeal which has been launched to fund a five-year research project into the particular type of breast cancer she suffers by the Institute of Cancer Research.

She has been walking a mile for each day she receives chemotherapy and will end up covering more than 100 miles for the 16 weeks of treatment.

The young fundraisers said they hoped Mrs Swinburne would be able to attend the pop-up pizza night, which will take place in the school on Thursday, December 14.

James said: “Last year, we did a sit down dinner. We did not want to do the same thing again and this will be more informal and family friendly.”

There will be a selection of four pizzas on the menu and the quartet’s fellow sixth formers will be helping out with service, running the quiz and providing entertainment.

“A lot of those who did it last year will be helping out again this time,” added Evie.

They are hoping to raise at least £1,000 towards research into lobular breast cancer.

“It won’t be anything like last year. It will be a different event altogether, more relaxed and more fun,” said Grace.

“The whole point is to raise money for the breast cancer charity. Mrs Swinburne is having treatment at the moment, but she has taught all of us.”

There are 80 tickets available for the pop-up pizza night, which runs from 6pm to 8pm, and the event is open to all. Tickets, priced £15 per person, are available online at https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/pizza-and-quiz-evening-tickets-749553273017?aff= oddtdtcreator
