Police probe after racist incident at cricket match

Police are investigating allegations of racism during a cricket match at Etherley late last month.

A police spokesman said: “Police were called at around 8.30pm on Tuesday, July 21 following reports of abusive behaviour during an ongoing cricket match at Etherley Cricket Club.

“A 60-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated public order and taken into police custody.

“He has since been released under investigation while further enquiries are carried out.”
