NEED to make room in your wardrobe? Or are you looking for something new to wear but don’t have the spare cash?
Well, why not head along to a pop up clothes swap shop in Barnard Castle next week as you could also be helping the environment.
The swap shop, the brainchild of teaching assistant Jenny Bainbridge, is an opportunity to clear out unwanted items in your wardrobe and pick up a few new ones at the same time, all for free.
Ms Bainbridge said: “I’ve been thinking about the impact fast fashion has on the environment for some time and I wondered what I could do as an individual.”
She added having attended several smaller events at friends houses she decided to organise her own swap shop and enlisted the help of her friend Carly Payne, who owns Moments Cafe, in Market Place.
The cafe will be turned into a temporary clothes shop for the evening.
Ms Bainbridge added: “Everyone’s welcome and you can bring your used clothes, books and accessories to swap. It’s a good way to pick up something new while being sustainable.
“On arrival you hand in the items you wish to swap while you have a coffee or drink. They will be processed and put onto clothing rails and then the browsing begins.”
After announcing the swap shop on social media Ms Bainbridge said more than 50 people have said they will be attending.
She added “I’ve been to a few small swap shops at friends’ houses and just thought it would be brilliant if we could encourage more people to do this.
“I’m really nervous about it, but excited at the same time. If it’s successful then we may look to do more in the future.”
The pop-up clothes swap shop will take place at Moments Cafe, on Market Place, on Wednesday, August, 14, between 6.30pm and 8.30pm.
