Upper Teesdale will be alive to the sound of music

STARRING ROLE: Mick Carr is helping to bring live music to Middleton-in-Teesdale

A NEW community group is hoping to bring back live music to Middleton-in-Teesdale.

Lunch club leader Mick Carr has teamed up with Sue Bainbridge, of Middleton-in-Teesdale Sports and Social Club, to form Hairy Dog Promotions and host a series of events at the club in the coming months. One of the first acts to perform will be American band Gringo Star who will take to the stage on Sunday, February 17.

Mr Carr said: “So far we have three American acts lined up in the next year, but ideally we would like to hear from local bands who would like to play live music in Middleton.

“We have already had interest from a psychedelic blues band from East Lancashire who would like to come up.”

Mr Carr ran a similar group for 20 years in Lancashire where emerging artists were given an opportunity to perform in front of a live audience.

He said: “They knew they were playing to an audience who enjoy new music, which is what I would like to do up here.”

Gringo Star are not new to the area, having performed in the dale in 2017.

The group takes its influence from the British invasion groups of the 1960s and early rock ‘n’ roll.

Mr Carr said: “You can hear hints of Americana in their music.

“We were lucky to get them because they are only doing five or six dates in the whole of the UK.

“It is an afternoon gig because they are in Dusseldorf the next day. They are well worth seeing. They are a great live act.”

Supporting act for Gringo Star is Jamie Longthorne from Spennymoor.

Tickets cost £6 and are available from Sue Bainbridge at the sports and social club, or Mr Carr on 07818 040066.
