Hub’s summer music festival hits right note

MAKE SOME NOISE: About the Humans on the main stage at The Hub

THE third annual summer music festival in a day at Barnard Castle’s TCR Hub has been declared the best to date – and the blueprint for future years.

The event, which supports music provision at the community centre, was moved indoors due to the weather, and unlike previous years featured two stages for the first time as organisers kept the music coming for 11 hours.

An acoustic stage had been set up in the cafe/games area which proved popular with the large audience that turned out to listen.

As in previous years, the main stage was in the main hall.

Promoter Dave Palmer, who helped to organise the day, described it as “absolutely fantastic” .

“This year, the first two spots on the acoustic and main stage were reserved for musicians from The Hub, so they were able to bring in some excellent young musicians who are starting out on their musical journey to play in front of an appreciative audience.”

Among the established acts to take to the stages were the Richmond Hillbillies, Catalina Rock Club and About the Humans.

On the acoustic stage were the likes of Izzy and Sam, Sam Nix and Malcolm Elsbury and Keith Magnall.

“Obviously, we would rather have seen the festival take place outside on a nice warm day, but we had no problem bringing it indoors,” added Mr Palmer.

“In fact, it worked well having the acts concentrated in one place.

“The biggest challenge was to make sure that we stuck to times and we pretty much got that right.

“The idea behind the acoustic stage was to keep the music coming as it takes time to change over bands on the main stage.

“It worked well and we will do it again next year,” added Mr Palmer.
