ORGANISERS of a charity fun day featuring an It’s a Knock-Out competition are hoping the event will be bigger and better than last year.
Already the Clique, the Barnard Castle-based charity which organises events in and around the town for local good causes, have got a bumper line-up of teams ready to go head-to-head across comical obstacles.
“We were only going to host the It’s a Knock-Out every two years,” said Clique member David Harper. “But everyone had such a good time last year, even though it rained, and we’ve had so much interest we decided to make it an annual event.”
This year 20 teams representing sports, clubs, pubs and business organisations will battle it out for the title on Saturday, July 28, from noon on the rugby pitches on the upper Demesnes, Barnard Castle.
In addition to the competition, there will be classic cars on display, bouncy castles, and food stalls from local businesses.
“People can bring down their rugs and chairs and have a picnic. There will be a fully licensed bar on site,” added Mr Harper.
As well as the centre piece competition the fun will continue into the evening with a host of local talented singers taking to the stage including Simon Brett’s The Band.
“We hope the weather stays like this, but we will have marquees on site,” said Mr Harper, who is hoping the rain will stay away unlike the last year when spectators and competitions were drenched in an unseasonal summer shower.
It is also hoped appliances from several of Teesdale’s emergency services will be on site to support the joint squad who have entered.
Tickets are £3 for adults and £2 for children, which includes use of the bouncy castles.
