EVENWOOD Town are through to the second round of the Weardale Cup after an 8-3 win against Heighington.
The teams met a fortnight ago but on that occasion, the tie was abandoned ten minutes into the game after Evenwood striker Scott Duggan suffered a broken leg.
In a crazy first half hour, the hosts raced to a 4-0 lead, only to be pegged back when Heighington twice capitalised on a lack of concentration among Evenwood’s defence.
However, it was a case of all’s well that ends well as Evenwood rattled in another four – and looked as though they could score every time they game within sight of the Heighington penalty area.
Ashley Murphy and Glen Hendrix both bagged hat-tricks for Evenwood with Liam Armstrong and James Brack adding the others.
Shane Dobson scored twice and Josh Ward added Heighington’s third.
In the league, Bowes FC are starting to show good form.
The side moved up to second in the first division with a 4-1 away win at Stanhope.
Man-of-the-match Rob Dixon scored two with the others coming from Paul Taylor and Jake Sowerby.
It was a competitive affair and not the one-sided game the scoreline suggests.
Given all the rain that fell last week, it was, perhaps, no surprise that Glaxo Rangers’ game was called off.
Glaxo will try again this Saturday when they welcome Ferryhill Town in the first round of the Alan Britton Memorial Cup.
Evenwood travel to Darlington Deacon in the second round of the Auckland Charity Cup, while Bowes have the day off.

STAINDROP battled hard for a point when they visited BA Juniors Pavilion.
Goals from Lewis Robinson and Sam Hicks ensured they came away with a point from the game, which keeps the side fourth in the first division.
Man-of-the-match for Staindrop was Jonny Foster.
Toft Hill’s struggles at the bottom of the division continue after the side went down 4-0 at home to unbeaten Witton Park who have now won four from four.
In the second division, Gainford sit mid-table after a 6-1 home win against Newton Aycliffe Sports Club.
Striker Alan Haycock, who took man-of-the-match honours, scored a hat-trick while Shane Walker and Kyle Swankie were also on target for Gainford. An own goal rounded off the scoring.
This Sunday, Toft Hill entertain Coundon WMC, while Staindrop welcome Ouston Juniors to Winston Road.
Darlington Sunday Morning Invitation League
IT’S fair to say Middleton-in-Teesdale’s 9-3 defeat against Darlington RA was nothing if not incident packed.
The visitors were awarded three penalties and manager Dave Short was sent off just ten minutes after coming on as a substitute.
The result means RA have now won seven from seven, while Middleton are still searching for their first point.
