Defeat for Glaxo Rangers despite fightback

MATCHES involving the dale’s teams were given the green light at the weekend despite the introduction of further restriction across the North East related to the Covid-19 alert.
A meeting between Durham County FA officials and representatives of the seven local authorities which asked the Government to impose the stricter measures resulted in a ban on matches involving teams from Gateshead, Sunderland and South Shields.
More talks were due this week about future games.
This meant Saturday’s games involving Glaxo Rangers and Evenwood Town on Saturday and teams in the Sundays leagues went ahead as scheduled.
Glaxo lost out 4-3 in a close game against Middlestone Moor.
After going 3-0 and 4-1 behind, Glaxo mounted a rousing fightback, but fell just short.
Scorers for Glaxo were Jamie McDougall, with two, and David Patterson, while man-of-the-match was Adam Dent.
Calum Crook scored the goal that earned Evenwood Town a point at home to Stanhope Sports and Social Club.
In the Darlington Sunday Morning League, Staindrop got their campaign off to a flying start with a 9-1 win against Northgate FC.
Middleton Wanderers’ at Garrison Redstar was postponed.
In the Wear Valley Sunday Morning League, man-of-the-match Alan Haycock struck twice in Gainford’s 3-1 win against Willington Black Horse. Ben Moore added Gainford’s third.
Toft Hill lost 5-2 at Newton Aycliffe Roundhouse, with Nigel Beckley and Matthew Tyrie scoring for the dale side.
