Day to remember for Evenwood pair

Durham & North East Cricket League Division Two Bill Quay v Evenwood

It was a day to remember for Evenwood batters Thomas Teesdale and Owen Peddelty, who smashed a 36-year-old record on Saturday.

On June 16, 1990, Clint Yorke and John Longstaff put on 269 for the second wicket for Evenwood in a fixture against Mainsforth. On June 13, 2026, Teesdale and Peddelty broke that record, scoring 272 in a second-wicket stand against Bill Quay.

The pair came together with Evenwood 0-1 after Lewis Leng was bowled for a golden duck by Michael Shiel.

That brought Teesdale and Peddelty together and the pair both went on to score centuries. Teasdale scored a relatively sedate 110 off 145 balls, hitting 16 fours and a six.

Peddelty, however, smashed an unbeaten 141 off 122 balls, a thrilling innings which included five sixes and ten fours.

Evenwood eventually reached 301-2 off 45 overs, a total Bill Quay were never likely to chase down.

Not content with scoring a century, and no doubt buzzing from batting so well, Teesdale took 4-25 with the ball as the hosts were bowled out for 137.

Asked to bat first, Raby lost two early wickets before Dent (100 not out) and Sean Heyes (85) controlled the innings as Raby reached a very respectable 238-5.

For a time Cockerton kept up with the required run rate before Joe Beadle had Pratish Thakkar (48) caught behind by Dent, who had swapped his batting gloves for keeping gloves.

The wicket broke a solid batting partnership and Cockerton eventually lost by 82 runs.

The wickets fell to Beadle (2-37), Tom Webb (2-25) and Finlay Kirkup (1-17).
