Clem Smith Bowl
Barnard Castle FC …………………………..7
Consett AFC Reserves ………………………8
It was a painful defeat for Barnard Castle as they lost 8-7 on penalties following a 1-1 draw in normal time against old rivals Consett AFC Reserves in the Clem Smith Bowl.
Barney must have been full of confidence following last week’s victory over league leaders Belmont and they were the better of the two sides in the first half.
Ryan Todd opened the scoring before half time with an excellent glancing header from a dangerous Jake McKellar corner.
The second half turned very scrappy with neither team able to create clear chances.
Consett drew level with just 15 minutes remaining from a long throw, with the ball only being cleared to a Consett shirt and they were able to poke home an equaliser.
As the final whistle blew it was straight to penalties. The first combined 13 were slotted home, and it unfortunately fell to one of the players of the season so far in Jake McKellar to be the unlucky one.
It was a cruel way to lose but Barney must be positive and take what they can from the game.
They have a week off now before taking on Sunderland RCA Reserves at home in the league on Saturday, December 9.

Seaham Red Star 1
West Auckland Town 3
TWO goals in the last five minutes secured the points for West in this Friday night encounter.
There was a flurry of activity early on as Red Star took the lead shortly after ten minutes before Luke Bailey’s pinpoint pass found Lee Hume who slid the ball past the keeper to level the scores.
West had skipper Liam Potter to thank when his goal line clearance on 40 minutes kept the sides level at half time.
Both sides created chances as the second half wore on, notably Bailey’s thunderbolt which struck a post.
With five minutes remaining, Hume’s corner found Josh Scott who drilled the ball into the net to give West the lead. A minute later Potter headed home from a Hume free kick to secure the points.

EVENWOOD Town came up short against league leaders Middlestone Moor as the hosts ran out 5-3 winners.
The win keeps Town one off the bottom, although with only six teams in the league, a couple of wins will soon change the situation. This Saturday, Evenwood are on the road again when they travel to Stanhope SSC.
