Youngsters kept in the dark at half term

IN THE DARK: Max Pearson leads Thomas Montgomery and little brother Henry along the route

MORE than a dozen youngsters experienced first-hand the challenges faced by nocturnal animals during a Wild Wednesday event at Bowlees Visitor Centre.

Wild Wednesday is presented by Natural England and the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) Partnership during school holidays with the aim of teaching youngsters more about the flora, fauna and geology of the upper dale.

The half-term theme was In the Dark where they learned about bats, insects and other animals that come out at night-time.

As part of the experience children donned blindfolds and followed an obstacle course which they had to complete using other senses such as touch and smell.
