Time to brush up on those ABCs… that’s archery, bushcraft and canoeing

OUTDOOR ADVENTURE: The Hub's Jonny Elliott says he can't wait to get back outdoors once Covid-19 restrictions have been eased in April

YOUNGSTERS are being invited to brush up on their ABCs – that’s archery, bushcraft and canoeing – as part of adventures to get them back outdoors.
A series of open air activities for children and their families is planned at the TCR Hub, in Barnard Castle, starting early next month.
Kicking off first are Saturday family adrenaline sessions which will take place throughout the month.
They are aimed at children, their parents and grandparents and will involve activities such as high ropes and canoeing or kayaking, which will be tailored to those taking part.
Morning sessions are from 10am to noon, with afternoon activities from 1pm to 3pm on April 3, 17, 24 and May 1.
A family ticket admits up to six people and costs £60 per family per session.
If the sessions prove successful, more may be organised during May.
Meanwhile, outdoor activities clubs are being launched in the week beginning April 12, when Covid-19 restrictions are due to be further eased.
Each club lasts for seven weeks, with sessions held on Tuesdays and Thursdays, for a maximum of ten people per group.
A club for eight to 12-year-olds will run on Tuesdays from 4.30pm to 5.30pm, with a club for 11 to 14-year-olds from 6pm to 7pm.
A second club for eight to 12-year-olds will meet on Thursdays from 4.30pm to 5.30pm. The Thursday club for older children is already sold out.
Jonny Elliott, outdoor pursuits manager at The Hub, said: “The sessions are designed to get children out again, help build their confidence and introduce them to other children once again.
“We will start the clubs with some team building and then there will be activities such as canoeing, high ropes, bushcraft and archery.
“Each club will effectively be its own bubble as the same group of children will take part for the seven weeks.”
He added: “We are still doing activities in schools, but I am really looking forward to getting back outside here at The Hub.”
It costs £52 per person to join one of the outdoor activity clubs for the full seven week run.
