A THOUGHT-provoking collection of photographs has gone on display at Bowless Visitor Centre, in upper Teesdale.
The exhibition, by Gabriel Langley, 18, is an insight into the teenager’s life on a smallholding in Ireshopeburn and will be on show until August 31. Mr Langley developed a passion for film and photography at the tender age of 13. He starting making animation but fell in love with photography after getting a digital SLR camera.
Three years ago Mr Langley won the Heritage Crafts Association Young Photographer of the Year and his two winning photographs were exhibited at The Prince’s Foundation in London.
One of those photographs – a portrait of a sheep, titled Horsely – also features in his exhibition.
Since winning the accolade Mr Langley has also undertaken film and photography commissions.
A stunning black and white photograph, taken from the kitchen window of his neighbour’s house features on the cover of a recent publication Talking Threads by Weardale-based writers, Northpens.
There are about 25 photographs on show in the exhibition, both in black and white and full colour with an interesting mix of stunning landscapes and unusual animal portraits. Mr Langley said it has taken nearly five years to put the collection of photographs together.
However, he also enjoys photographing live action and regularly shoots his brother when he is in action on his bike through Hamsterley Forest. The exhibition runs until Friday, August 31, at Bowlees Visitor Centre and in addition to the framed photographs there are additional prints and cards on display.
