STAFF at a busy dale pub are putting their best feet forward to raise cash to help “walk all over cancer” .
A team of six at the Fox and Hounds, in Cotherstone, signed up to walk 10,000 steps every day in March for breast cancer research after a staff member was diagnosed with the disease. Landlady Nicola Swinbank, along with her mum Jenny Watson and daughter Lydia, agreed to take part in the challenge through the Teesdale branch of Cancer Research, alongside employees Linda Kidd, Hannah Walton and Jenny Watson.
Mrs Watson said: “Nicola, Lydia and myself have done the challenge before as a three-generation family entry.
“When we told the others at the pub, we were doing it again this year for breast cancer research, they wanted to sign up as well. It hits home when it’s someone you know who is diagnosed.”
The team have had no problem so far reaching their daily 10,000 step count with all staff kept on their toes serving more and more customers at the pub since the relaxation of pandemic restrictions. As well as sponsorship forms at the Fox and Hounds, donations can
be made online at Teesdale Cancer Research https://bit.ly/3oXcUkB
Cash raised will go directly to the Newcastle Cancer Research Centre, which deals with children, teens and adult cancer. Other Teesdale residents also answered the call for the challenge, including Dorothy Walker, Shirley Richardson, Terry Thornton, Alison Sabey, Caroline Bainbridge and Pauline Connelly.
