Teesdale Scouts
HUNDREDS of Scouts from across the dale enjoyed a packed programme of events in Startforth.
It was the first district activity following the easing of Covid lockdowns and restrictions, and what a great day it was.
Almost 200 members of Teesdale Scouts, including Middleton-in-Teesdale, Barnard Castle, Gainford, Staindrop and Butterknowle Scout groups headed to Startforth Community Centre for a simply splendid day brimful of varied activities from street dance to baking; assault course to archery and shooting.
The Scouts also renewed their promises during the event. One highlight was Mark Fell, the group leader of Barnard Castle Scouts receiving the Silver Acorn from the district commissioner, John Moore.
Mr Moore said that Mark had offered long term, sustained quality leadership running into decades leading one of the region’s largest and most successful Scout groups.
The Silver Acorn is the second highest award available to adults in Scouting.
Mr Fell has been involved with Scouting for 45 years and leader at Barnard Castle for the past 19.
He will now be invited to Windsor Castle to have his long service award formally recognised.
