School gives each child a new book

BOOKWORMS: Coral Smith

A READING challenge culminated with every child at Evenwood Primary School receiving a book.
The school challenge saw children set a different reading goal each day, such as reading while drinking hot chocolate or reading a book about an animal. Parent support advisor Rachel Stevens said: “We are constantly striving to promote a love for reading in the school.”
Thanks to cash from North Star Housing, every child took home a new book before the lockdown closures.
Ms Stevens said: “96 children were given a book wrapped up for Christmas which they took home and shared with their families.”
The teachers chose a book for each child depending on their interests and favourite authors. The pupils also received a selection box and a hot chocolate cone. North Star Housing gave the school £370 towards the cost of the books.
