THE Castle Players’ annual outdoor summer production is back with The Comedy of Errors, and with it comes the brewing of a special real ale.
Each year, the theatre group asks the public to come up with a witty name for the beer brewed by Aldbrough St John business Mithril Ales.
This year’s winner is Peter Montgomery, from the same village who suggested “twin tipple” to celebrate Shakespeare’s madcap tale of identical twins and mistaken identity, shipwreck and separation. He won the chance to visit the brewery and help to start the brew by adding the hops. He is also invited to The Old Well Inn for the launch of the beer and to taste the first pint out of the pump, as well as two tickets to enjoy an opening night drinks reception and the first performance of The Comedy of Errors in the grounds of The Bowes Museum on Tuesday, July 5.
Pete Fenwick, of Mithril Ales, said: “I’m always keen to support local arts and am really looking forward to seeing the new, specially constructed open-air stage that is being built this year.
“There’s also a live band, and a Peaky Blinders feel about the 1930s New York setting. I love the way The Castle Players give Shakespeare a different slant on things and makes it more accessible to all.”
As well as local pubs in Teesdale, the ale will also be on sale at the on-site bar.
The Comedy of Errors will be performed at 7.30pm from Tuesday, July 5, to Saturday, July 9. Tickets can be bought at www.castleplayers.co.uk, by calling 01833 631107.
