Middleton-in-Teesdale residents pull out all the stops for annual carnival procession

UNDER THE SEA: The group who produced the Save Our Seas float won first prize for their effort

PEOPLE in Middleton-in-Teesdale spared no expense in producing one of the dale’s largest and most colourful carnival parades this year.

A magnificent array of floats ranged from Toy Story 4 and The Lion King to homage being paid to the village’s gardening team who have consistently won gold in the Northumbria-in-Bloom environmental competition.

A float called Save Our Seas carried on the environmental theme and won first place for their efforts. Also impressive were the groups and individuals which included a stunning Trotter’s Independent Trading Co Robin Reliant, built by Oscar Mills, which took first place in his category.

He said: “It took a long time to build and I am very proud. After this I’m going to ride it around the field.”

Along with the fancy dress, the procession included two fire engines, a marching band, pipe band and clown entertainers. After the parade everyone met on the village sportsfields to enjoy games and stalls.
