It’s a great day for Barnard Castle prep school pupils

SIGNING UP TO HELP: Signing and singing the Greatest Day

PUPILS showed signs of their caring nature as they performed a pop classic to raise awareness about those unable to hear.

Children at Barnard Castle Preparatory School performed Take That’s Greatest Day using British sign language (BSL) to help raise much needed funds for the Sign2Sing project.

Deaf health charity SignHealth seeks to transform the lives of people through a host of projects funded by staging the only annual mass participation signing event in the country.

Prep school pupils split into houses to learn sign language and perform the song, raising funds for the charity along the way.

Prep School teacher Emma Small said: “The nice thing about learning the song and signing in houses was that it allowed the older children to help the younger ones.

“Our children absolutely loved it and picked up BSL really quickly.”

She added: “On top of raising money, the project is a brilliant way to raise awareness among our children of how people with hearing impairment communicate, whilst also breaking down the barriers between the hearing and non-hearing communities.”
