Raby castle Cricket Club
IT’S been a busy time at Raby Castle CC, with the club hosting a number of notable fixtures and the junior section showing good form.
Raby was the setting for a game between the North East Warriors and the Yorkshire Cricket Board.
The Warriors are a senior ladies team consisting of the best players from Durham and Northumberland and this was the first longer format game played by the side as part of this season’s Hazell-Brunt Cup
Durham scored 176 for 9 off their 45 overs and Yorkshire reached the target in the 43rd over to win by 6 wickets.
After the match Raby Castle CC was thanked for hosting the match and received praise from Warriors coach Tom Cant for the quality of the wicket and outfield and the hospitality shown to both teams and their supporters.
The club has also hosted two county level matches in one week.
First up was a 20-over game involving South West Durham U11 and the North Yorkshire Area Cricket Council U11s, which was won by the Yorkshire visitors.
The second fixture came about by surprise when coach Scott Hedley took a phone call from Barnard Castle CC asking if Raby could host an U15 girls match between Durham County and Lancashire.
After a flurry of activity and thanks to the efforts of Mark Poole, who ran the mower over the wicket, a 35-over match got under way just before noon.
For the record Lancashire girls ran out comfortable winners scoring 141 for 8 of their overs and bowling Durham out for just 71.
Both coaches thanked Raby for stepping in and hosting the match and the club received positive comments from the visiting spectators and parents for how the wicket played and the wonderful setting.
Raby secretary Steve Caygill said: “It was great that we could help out and more importantly the girls were able to get a game of cricket, particularly with Lancashire having travelled so far.”

Cricket Tournament
STAINDROP Academy held its annual cricket competition at Raby Castle CC.
More than 180 year 3 and 4 pupils took part and despite the windy, showery and changeable weather they enjoyed a great day
Green Lane School were the winners of the morning’s competition, while Ingleton and Cotherstone were jointly victorious after the afternoon’s action.
Raby Castle CC U13s
The U13s continued their excellent start to the season by reaching the final of the RS Pratt Cup.
After victories against Evenwood, Bishop Auckland and Tudhoe they topped their group and then hosted fellow group winners Willington in the semi-final.
Raby ran out comfortable winners after restricting Willington to 53 for 4 off their 20 overs.
Only Elliott Power showed any resistance with a solid knock of 33 not out.
The Raby bowling and fielding was excellent with Joe Brookes (2-8), Ralph Hoskyns-Abrahall (1-2) and Beth Poole (1-6) impressing as the wicket takers.
In reply, it took Raby only five-and-a-half overs to reach their target, with William Poole scoring 30 not out and Bertie Morris 16 not out.
Raby will play either Esh Winning or Tudhoe in the final at Hunwick.
Raby U11s and U9s
THE U11s had a good win over Bishop Auckland, with man-of-the-match Theo Swan taking four wickets.
The U9ss team was also victorious in their match against Bishop Auckland.
