Holwick’s scarecrow’s raise a tasty extra £150

IN THE MONEY: Dr Heather MacConachie with Helen Knowles who won the inaugural Holwick scarecrow trail with her blood biker effigy

AN extra £150 has been raised for NHS Charities by organisers of Holwick’s inaugural scarecrow trail, which was held in August.
The trail, which featured more than 20 effigies of keyworkers, was organised by mum-of-two Jennie Lee when her children were disappointed at the cancellation of nearby Middleton-in-Teesdale’s annual carnival procession.
Lots of people took part in the trail that raised £300. A blood biker scarecrow, complete with motorcycle, created by Jeff and Helen Knowles, was awarded first place. However, the couple donated their prize vouchers for meals at The Crown at Mickleton to raise more money.
Mrs Lee said: “The number board was on sale at the Co-op at Middleton, then at my work place and through family and friends. All the numbers have been sold and we have raised an extra £150 for the NHS.”
There are already plans in place to organise another trail in August next year but Mrs Lee said she would need help in putting it together.
