Head and deputy bow out at leavers’ service

GOOD WISHES: Gainford Primary School chairman of governors

A SCHOOL leavers’ service was made all the more poignant as pupils not only bade farewell to their year six, but also to four members of staff, including the headteacher.

Along with the school’s head, Chris Riley, Gainford Primary School has also lost deputy head Jo Kidd, caretaker Maureen Reed to retirement, and office manager Jennifer Linsley to a new job.

Tribute was paid to them during the service at St Mary’s Church on Monday last week.

The praise was led by vicar Revd Canon Eileen Harrop through a recorded message from her holiday in Singapore.

Chairman of school governors, Stephen White, who is also a past pupil of the school, wished the departing staff the best in the future.

He said: “On behalf of the governors, thank you. It has been a privilege to have you as our head and deputy head and you have been an inspiration to all of our children.”

Mrs Riley thanked the Friends of Gainford School who made it possible for the children to go on outings through the year, including a trip to the seaside.

She added: “We have a fantastic group of governors who lead our school and ensure the outcomes for our children are really good.

“Our school is made up of a tiny team of people who work really hard, who I have been really lucky to work with. They dedicate all of their time to ensure that every single child reaches their potential and flourishes.”

The headteacher thanked the church officers and the Gainford community for their help and support over the years.

Mrs Kidd added: “Gainford School is a very special place, it was a privilege to work here for so many years.”

She also thanked her colleagues, governors, local community and church for their support.

She added: “Most of all I would like to thank the children, past and present, who have made it a joy to come to work every day.”
