A SPORTY Teesdale couple are donning their running shoes to raise cash for local sports teams.
Tina and Matt Robson, from Middleton-in-Teesdale, will take part in two gruelling running events in a bid to raise £500 for the village’s cricket, football and walking football clubs.
Mrs Robson will attempt to complete the full 26.2 miles of the Rob Burrows Leeds Marathon on May 14 and her husband will take part in a seven-hour time challenge event, Runs ‘N’ Roses in Durham on March 5.
Mrs Robson said: “There are a couple of reasons why we’ve chosen these clubs.
“One being my poppop, Colin Lee-Shield, was one of the founding members of the cricket club, and he is greatly missed by us all. He loved sport and the community spirit it inspired.
“Another is my absolute love of being outdoors, which is something these clubs encourage people to do. Research shows that spending time in green spaces can improve physical and mental health and improve the social aspects of our lives, something we as a family have certainly benefitted from as well as many others we know.
“Whether a player, manager, coach, committee member, supporter or the ones at home ready to celebrate or commiserate with them these clubs have had a positive impact.” She added: “As they continue to grow, I am sure we’ll see even more people benefit from their success, but they can’t continue and grow without support. We’d love to be able to help raise money towards the equipment they need for the groundwork that needs doing.”
The couple set up an online fundraising page and have already raised half their target.
