DEMENTIA-friendly games for the brain sessions have become a little more competitive after charity fundraising group The Clique donated an indoor kurling set.
The dementia group meets at the TCR Hub every Monday between 2pm and 3.30pm to play indoor sporting activities such as table tennis and bowls. After volunteers got in touch with The Clique, which raises funds throughout the year for local good causes, an indoor kurling game was donated.
Clique members Graeme Maughan and Colin Watson handed over the new game, complete with two tone target, “stones” and brushes and took part in a few initial games with members.
Sharon Simms from the Alzheimer’s Society, which organises the Games for the Brain sessions, said she was delighted with the donation. She explained the kurling set enables members to be active, but requires very little strength for them to push the stones as they are on small casters. She thanked the Clique for its donation and one of the groups regular members, Joan Whiteley, handed over a handcrafted thank you card.
Mr Maughan said: “Seeing everyone here today and the joy this game has brought makes all the fundraising we do at the Clique worthwhile.”
