Acrobats converge on town for major training workshop

Acrobats hone their skills during a workshop at The Hub

ACROBATS from all over the UK and Europe descended on a dale community centre in an intensive weekend of training and could signal the start of some exciting new workshops in the spring.

Aspiring and semi-professional acrobats, led by charismatic husband and wife team, Marion Schenk and Alexander Lenz, have become regular guests at the Hub in Barnard Castle.

The Durham based duo, who met at university, have been performing and teaching acrobatics with their company Forma Fortis, for more than 25 years.

They have performed internationally as a duo and in collaboration with jugglers, dancers and aerial artists.

While their day jobs as a physics professor and sports doctor keeps them grounded they still tour the world with their sons teaching and performing hair-raising tricks.

Their most recent visit, to the Hub for a full intensive weekend of strength training and balancing skills saw them make the most of the unique venue.

They said of their recent visit to the Hub: “We have the ideal height and space needed for specialist acrobatic training, allowing us to safely develop and practice new skills. Training here with the beautiful view of the grounds and lake is inspirational.”

And given the success of the most recent visit management at the Hub are looking at organising children’s acrobatic workshops in the spring.

Vicky Taylor, event host at the Hub, said: “If you have children aged eight years or over interested in acrobatics please get in touch on 01833 690150 to register your interest.”

A one-off acrobatic session will be held at TCR Hub on Sunday, May 19.

The £30 ticket for the day long session includes lunch.
