Full on’ Irish band lines up dates in Teesdale clubs

MINI TOUR: Share The Darkness are heading to Cockfield and Etherley as part of a mini tour of south Durham is the first half of March

ONE of the region’s premier Irish band’s is coming to the Gaunless Valley as part of a mini-tour of south Durham venues.

Share The Darkness,a five-piece from Bishop Auckland and Spennymoor, have been building their fanbase locally since forming four years ago.

Promising lovers of live music a “full on rollickin’ Irish show” , the group will perform at Cockfield Workingmen’s Club on Saturday, March 2, before heading to Etherley Cricket Club on Saturday, March 9. Both shows start at 8.30pm.

Other nearby dates in the next couple of weeks include Bishop Auckland FC Supporters Club at Bishop FC on Friday, March 8 (8pm), and Bishop Auckland Golf Club on Friday, March 15 (8pm).

Singer Phil Graham said all members of the band were professional musicians, boasting about 150 years of collective experience.

“It is this level of experience which the band feel is a major factor in them being nominated for Best Traditional Act 2016 in the Ubeat TV Awards at the O2 Academy, in Newcastle,” he said. The band have amassed a loyal fanbase and are swell received throughout the north east region.”

In addition to Phil on vocals, the band comprises Geoff Pickering, vocals, guitars and mandolin; Mark Hammonds, vocals and guitar; Gary Lee, vocals and bass; and Cathy Edmunds on fiddle.

Mr Hammond said the group played music by everyone from The Dubliners and Saw Doctors to The Waterboys and Dropkick Murphys, along with some of their own songs.

Among dates later in the year is a visit to the Tan Hill in on Friday, June 28.
