Country and satire at Boldron with Canadian musician

ON THE ROAD: Canadian musician Ryan Cook brings his own style of country music to Boldron village hall

A CANADIAN musician, who mixes classic country music with modern satire is kicking off his 18-date UK tour with a visit to Teesdale as part of the Highlights rural entertainment scheme.

Ryan Cook, who has received more than 20 music nominations in his home country, will be performing songs from his fourth and latest album, Having a Good Time, at Boldron Village Hall on Thursday, March 14.

His acoustic live show combines thumb-picking guitar styles, original folk and country ballads as well as vintage music from the 1940s and 1950s. With nuances of pop and western swing, Mr Cook’s songbook reminiscences of the early hillbilly and folk pioneers but stays very much in the current landscape.

Among his many awards are four album of the year prizes and Country Recording of the Year last year in the Nova Scotia music awards.

Mr Cook said: “Rural communities are often where great art is born and most appreciated which is a very meaningful way for me to tour the UK for the first time.”

Tickets cost £10 per person and are available from Valerie Tiplady on 01833 638210. Doors to the gig open at 7.30pm.
