AFTER playing host to more than 50 bands and solo artists during the past 12 years, it’s over and out for Club Cotherstone.
The popular live music shows at the village hall were the brainchild of resident Colin Robinson who, in 2007, posed the question: “Do you reckon people would come to see live music in the village” ?
The answer was a definite “yes” and Club Cotherstone was born.
However, when New York’s Ben Arthur and Yorkshire’s Boss Caine double headline on Saturday, May 11, it will be the final gig.
Mr Robinson, who has run Club Cotherstone with wife Claire, said they had enjoyed “the most amazing time” .
He said: “Over the last 12 years well over 50 varied and original bands and artists played here for us, including Mercury Music Prize nominees, BAFTA and Ivor Novello Award winners and even the band that played the opening of the Olympic ceremony at London 2012.”
However, the couple have decided now is the time to step back.
“It’s with heavy hearts that we’ve taken the decision to stop,” said Mr Robinson.
“We’ve found ourselves in awe of the incredible bands and artists we’ve managed to persuade to play in our little village and shared more than a few ‘pinch me am I dreaming?’ moments while sat watching musical heroes of ours. However, over recent years its become more difficult to sell advance ticket sales.
“While gig night is magical, the truth is that the stress of worrying about tickets right up to the very last second has started to outweigh the high points,” he added.
He said they wanted to go out on a high and hope everyone who has enjoyed a visit to Club Cotherstone will come out one last time and celebrate 12 years of live music in the village.
“Our crowd have really taken the concept of bringing your own booze and nibbles to a whole new level, coming with full picnics.
“The nights are a real event and everyone arrives wanting to have a great time and enjoy some fabulous music.
“We are really hoping that this final gig will be the triumphant send-off that Club Cotherstone deserves. It’s been a ride.”

Doors will open at 7.30pm and live music will begin at 8pm. Guests can bring their own booze and nibbles.
