Teesdale Tiger Sharks return to swimming ‘at home’

Teesdale Tiger Sharks have returned to their ‘home’ pool with a splash

After nine months away Teesdale Tiger Sharks ASC returned to the pool with a splash with 15 eager young swimmers attending the first session back.

During refurbishment of Teesdale Leisure Centre club members have trained at Richmond pool and at sessions held at Catterick by teaming up with Richmond Dales ASC.

Young swimmers from the club have also attended a number of competitions, including representation at the North East Regional Short Course Championships in Sheffield earlier this month.

Despite the disruption and challenges, swimmers continued to succeed at galas as a result of their hard work and commitment to the sport and the support of their coaching team.

Finley Street-Poulsen, Oscar Smithwhite, Thea Onions, Alice Best and Georgia Dunnill as well as Kian Wilkinson (not pictured) were all medallists at a recent gala in Middlesbrough.

The club is welcoming back old members and offers free taster sessions for new members at its weekly sessions on Mondays, Thursdays and Sundays.

Thanks to a grant from Point North’s Culture and Sport Small Grants Scheme the club is excited to launch its new Inspire to Swim programme, offering swimmers the opportunity to develop their swimming technique and learn competitive racing skills in a small, friendly and inclusive club environment.

Inspire to Swim has been specially designed to complement swimming lessons and is suitable for stage five and above.

Thanks to Point North and additional support from NESS Swimwear, swimmers on the scheme will receive ten one-hour sessions with a fully qualified Swim England coach/teacher, T-shirt, swim hat and water bottle for just £30.

As the club continues to grow, it is looking for sponsorship for the wider club as well as its Inspire to Swim programme.
