Teesdale football round-up: Toft Hill go marching on with 6-1 victory

LUCKY BREAK: Jonny Raine's challenge on the Wearhead keeper was a split second too late -"‚but when he bundled the ball over the line

Wear Valley Sunday League

TOFT Hill Three Tuns made it 13 wins out of 13 in the second division so far this season with a 6-1 home win against Wearhead United.

The game was effectively over within ten minutes as the hosts went 3-0 up in next to no time.

The first goal was controversial – and shouldn’t have stood. Jonny Raine’s challenge on the Wearhead keeper was a split second too late and the ref should have awarded a free kick.

However, the striker bundled the ball over the line and it was allowed to stand.

The second was a fine solo effort from Nigel Beckley, who burst through and shot past the keeper.

The third was the pick of the morning – a lovely move down the right, a pin-point cross and a fine header from Andrew Boyes.

Boyes went on to complete a hat-trick and Beckley scored another as Toft Hill completed a comprehensive win.

Staindrop remain third in the second division with a hard-fought goalless draw at Bishop Auckland Bay Horse. Adrian Dooley was the pick of the Staindrop players.

Not such a good morning for Bowes in the first division – they went down 6-0 at BA Sports.

Other results

Division 1: Middlestone Moor Mason’s Arms 7, Coundon Miners 2; BA Pavilion 6, Willington Queen’s Head 1.

Division 2: Darlington RA 6, BH Blues 0; North Bitchburn Red Lion 8. NA Sports 2; Kirk Merrington Half Moon 5, Spennymoor Ash Tree 4.

Crook and District League

THERE was success for three of the dale’s sides in the league’s various cup competition on Saturday.

Glaxo Rangers battled back from a goal down at Wolsingham, who went into the break 1-0 up in the Alan Britton Cup.

James White equalised with a well taken free kick and two goals from new signing Adam Lee-Shield secured a 3-1 win.

A Callum Tallentire hat-trick and two from Mike Dixon helped Bowes progress 5-4 at Wear Valley.

In the Colin Waites Cup, Evenwood turned over group leaders Darlington GSOB 5-3 in a game where fortunes ebbed and flowed.

The hosts were 3-2 up going into the last quarter, but three late goals won the day for Evenwood. On target were Chris Howe (2), Ashley Murphy, Scott Duggan and Jamie Lamb.

Also in the Colin Waites Cup, Redwell Rangers were on the wrong end of a 21-1 hiding at home to Stanhope SSC. Aidan Clarke provided the only bright spot for the Barney outfit.
