MOVE over England – there’s no stopping the young footballers from a Barnard Castle school.

The St Mary’s RC Primary team, made up of children from years one and two, conquered all before them to lift the trophy. The youngsters were unbeaten in the contest which featured teams from Montalbo, Staindrop, Green Lane, Evenwood and Cockfield.

Teacher Alex Dougall explained: “Staindrop Academy offers PE services, with a coach coming into each school.

“This term, we have had football, which concluded with the tournament at the Alun Armstrong Centre, in Shildon.”

He said the team had performed brilliantly, not conceding single goal in the seven-a-side competition, which was played on a round-robin basis.
