Kids jump to it… with help from ex-international badminton star

JUMP TO IT: Badminton star Jenny Wallwork joins pupils at Green Lane Primary at the sponsored work-out

EX-international badminton star Jenny Wallwork put pupils through their paces as part of a fundraising effort to pay for new PE equipment.

Ms Wallwork, 32, won silver and bronze medals at European and Commonwealth games in the mixed doubles and doubles, achieving a ranking of world number five, before retiring in 2013.

She visited Green Lane Primary School this week to join youngsters in a sponsored work-out.

The school’s PE co-ordinator Helen Court said all the children had been involved in the exercises and she hoped up to £1,000 would be raised.

“We are hoping to get a table tennis table, pom-poms for cheerleading and taekwondo coaching.

“This will improve the range of sports available and give the children more opportunities to get involved.”

Ms Wallwork said she enjoyed her work visiting schools and extolling the benefits of sport and exercise.

In addition to joining in, she also took part in an assembly, telling the pupils of her life as a top class athlete.

“I travelled the world – badminton does not really have an off season and I was competing and training up to five hours a day,” she said.
