Coaching efforts earn Steve an ECB award

TOP AWARD: Raby Castle CC's Steve Caygill receives his coaching award from Durham Cricket's Gary Hulme

A DALE coach has received a top award for his work with young cricketers.
Parents of junior players at Raby Castle Cricket Club nominated Steve Caygill for a 2021 ECB coaching award, run in the county by Durham Cricket.
The awards recognised the work and efforts of those who make cricket happen by supporting and coaching the next generation of players and coaches.
Mr Caygill was nominated for coach of the year, one of four awards up for grabs.
Judges agreed with the Raby parents that Mr Caygill’s work, from helping to run the All Stars programme to the weekly coaching of many of the young cricketers at Raby Castle CC, was worthy of the award.
His prize was complimentary hospitality tickets to the Royal London one-day game between Durham and Hampshire at the Riverside.
Mr Caygill said: “My son Matthew and I had a fabulous day at the Riverside.
“The cricket was great, with Durham guaranteeing their place in the semi-finals of the 50 over competition.
“At one point Hampshire were 60-odd for 6 and I was worried we would be home by three o’clock.”
Mr Caygill received his award from Gary Hulme, of the Durham Cricket Board.
Mr Hulme said: “After last season’s shortened season and the outstanding efforts of the coaching community throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, the awards were a small way to thank the many volunteer coaches who have and continue to support the game.”
