Cash boost for Barnard Castle Squash Club

A squash club that was formed last year has been given a cash boost to help it grow and develop.

Barnard Castle Squash Club has attracted 20 members since it was started in 2025 and is hoping to train more junior and adult coaches.

To help three county councillors have given £500 from their neighbourhood budgets to help the scheme.

Cllr Chris Foote-Wood gave £200, Cllr Richard Bell £180 and Cllr Jasmine Fox £120.

The councillors said “We are pleased to support this local club with funds so that it can grow and develop.

“Sport is an essential part of health and wellbeing for all ages.”

The club uses courts at Barnard Castle School.

Joe McAuley from the club said: “The club is aiming to develop more widespread participation from the community and to promote the exceptional health, fitness and wellbeing benefits of this fun sport.”

Club members are also raising funds to support their ambitions to get more members training as junior and adult coaches with a focus on growing the junior membership via a youth coaching programme starting this autumn.
