Wrong slide’ holds up opening of Demesnes play area in Barnard Castle

UNFINISHED: The swings with no swings and the slide fenced off at the lower Demesnes

A TOWN play area is still not fully open to the public following refurbishment work as the wrong equipment had been sent, members of Barnard Castle town council heard last week.
The children’s play area on the lower Demesnes was replaced in the spring by Durham County Council as a legacy of its transfer to the town council.
However, several items of play equipment are still not complete and the are remains partially closed.
Clerk Martin Clark told members he had been chasing Durham County Council for an answer as to why the work had not been completed.
He said: “I have been asking about the play area and the reason it is not complete is they sent the wrong slide. When the correct slide arrives, it will be opened up.”
Cllr John Blissett said; “What about the swings? They’re still not up either.”
Mr Clark added: “It has taken me months to get that information.
“I imagine they will arrive with the slide.”
