Walking rugby success in Barnard Castle

Barnard Castle Rugby Club’s newest team is very much alive and kicking.

Players representing The Walking Dead have successfully completed their first round of home games.

The landmark event was a return match against Richmondshire RUFC on the Demesnes.

The Walking Dead played four games of ten minutes duration and Barney’s director of coaching, Paul Davis, was delighted with the outcome.

“The games were played with sportsmanship and enjoyed by all who took part,” he said.

“There were plenty of tries for both teams and the improvement in performance was obvious compared to our first game away at Richmond.”

Paul hopes more people come forward to play what is becoming an increasingly popular pastime with many benefits.

“Anyone interested in wanting to give it a go is very welcome,” he said.

“Walking rugby offers many of the same health and social benefits as traditional rugby for both men and women but with much lower impact on the body, making it suitable for a wide range of ages and fitness levels.

“Walking rugby increases mobility, social interaction and teamwork. It also reduces stress and supports mental wellbeing.

“Walking rugby is a safe, inclusive and enjoyable sport.”

Training sessions take place on Thursday from 6.30-7.30pm. For information, call Paul on 07740 086685.
