Volunteers pop up to raise cash for dale’s Cancer Research group

POPPING UP: Volunteers Carol Goldberg and Yvonne Metcalfe were on duty when the Mercury popped into the pop-up shop

A POP-UP shop to help dale fundraisers pull in much needed cash for a cancer charity has seen a steady stream of customers since it launched on Wednesday, October 28.
The Teesdale branch of Cancer Research UK’s fundraising efforts have been hit hard this year due to the coronavirus.
Events, including the popular Christmas fair, have been cancelled due to social distancing restrictions.
However, ladies have been kept busy since launching the pop-up shop at the Hayloft, in Barnard Castle last week. The shop, which is open daily from 9am until 4pm, will be in place for the next couple of weeks.
As well as Christmas cards, calendars and diaries there are lots of hand made goods including crocheted blankets and teddy bears, knitted hats and gloves.
The group’s Pam Ashmore said: “We’ve got a lot of things because we haven’t been able to hold our usual events, but we hope we can make a difference.”
