Urgent police appeal… for Teesdale’s young heroes

HOLDING OUT FOR A HERO: PCSOs Liz Finn and Preet SIngh launch the search for Teesdale's young heroes TM pic

A NEW scheme led by Teesdale’s police beat team is hoping to shine a spotlight on some of the area’s most inspirational youngsters.

The Young Heroes Awards is based on a scheme which has been running in Peterlee for the past two years.

Officers hope to highlight the contribution made by under 18s to the dale community.

PCSO Preet Singh said: “Sometimes we forget the positive things that young people do and what a difference they can make to someone’s life. We want to recognise this.

“Teesdale is a small community but it is a great place and there are lots of youngsters doing amazing things every day and we want to make sure they are appreciated.”

Each month a “young hero” will be chosen by the beat officers from a list of nominees and will receive a certificate and a prize.

At the end of the year there will be an awards ceremony, bringing together all 12 monthly winners, residents and businesses when the overall hero will be announced.

PCSO Liz Finn said: “We want to recognise the good in young people and want to say well done.

“We have approached a number of local businesses to get involved and have had a great response from them and we hope to encourage more to get onboard.

“We’re going to be out in schools this week and will be getting in touch with as many groups and clubs as possible to tell them about the scheme.”

Anyone can put someone up for the awards, but nominees must be from Teesdale and under 18 years of age.

To nominate someone for a young hero awardsend a private mail through Barnard Castle Police’s social media page at Facebook.com/ Barnard Castle Police or email [email protected].
