Tree-mendous Christmas festival at Barney church

DAZZLING: Revd Canon Alec Harding and Revd Sarah Cliff admire some of the decorated Christmas trees

THE biennial Christmas tree festival at St Mary’s Church, in Barnard Castle, made a dazzling return last week.
Many of the trees decorated by businesses, groups and organisations in the town were around a Christmas film theme, including The Grinch, Willy Wonka, Frozen, Alf and It’s A Wonderful Life.
Teesdale Operatic Society decorated their tree to a Joseph And the Technicolour Dream Coat theme in line with their recent production at The Witham, while Ian Blake, of Barnard Castle Toilet Twinning, had his tree located next to the church’s lavatories.
St Mary’s vicar, Revd Canon Alec Harding, was impressed with the display.
He said: “I think the trees are marvellous, both in terms of the quality of the trees from Sam Turner’s and the decorations which are superb.”
Entrance to the festival was free, although donations were gratefully received, and visitors enjoyed mulled wine and other Christmas delights while viewing the display.
