A BARNARD Castle youngster has enjoyed a taste of sweet success after raising £150 with a charity bake sale.
Ten-year-old Alfie Fallows was inspired to bake for a good cause after watching The Great Celebrity Bake Off for Stand Up To Cancer on Channel Four.
The Green Lane Primary School pupil said: “At the end of every episode there was a little story about people who have cancer. I decided I wanted to raise money so people don’t get cancer as much. Me and my mum ordered one of the starter kits and then went shopping to buy some ingredients to bake the cakes. I love baking.”
Together Alfie and his mum, Lauren, spent the day baking tasty treats including chocolate brownies, red velvet cake, Victoria sponge cake and fairy cakes. Friends and family then visited Alfie at his home in Barnard Castle to tuck in and support his fundraising idea.
He said: “I would like to say thank you to everyone for helping me raise money for Stand Up To Cancer.”
Headteacher Rob Goffee added: “We are very proud of Alfie at school. We have been talking about using our talents to help others and to help the community and that is what Alfie has done. He is helping and supporting people suffering from cancer.”
