Tributes to much-loved Mandy Rose
A much-loved member of the Barnard Castle community has passed away after a spell in hospital.
Mandy Rose, who ran Castle Dental for more than 20 years, died peacefully in hospital on October 4. She was 59.
Her husband Malcolm paid tribute to her, telling the Mercury: “People always tell me about how kind she was.
“Living with her, that’s just the way she was.
“She would always go out of her way to help anyone.
“It felt like everywhere she went, people found it easy to talk with her.”
During an earlier stay in hospital, that approachable personality led to many friendships.
“Back in 2019, Mandy was in hospital for six months with intestinal problems,” Malcolm recalled.
“The nurses used to ask her to go and talk to the other long-term patients to help cheer them up.
“Even today, years later, we still get letters and emails from people who remember her from that time.”
Mandy was owner of Castle Dental from 2002 until 2023, devoting more than 20 years to the practice.
And her former colleagues posted their tributes to her: “Mandy’s retirement in 2023 marked the end of a very special chapter and her passing brings great sadness to all those who knew her.
“On behalf of everyone at the practice, we would like to extend our heartfelt condolences to Mandy’s family and friends.
“We hope they can find comfort in the memories they shared with Mandy and in knowing that she will be remembered with great fondness.”
Mandy’s former patients at Castle Dental also paid tribute.
One comment read: “She was mine and my girls’ dentist.
“I always found her to be friendly and easy to talk to.”
Another added: “Mandy was our family dentist for so many years and was a lovely lady.”
Mandy is survived by Malcolm and her son Max, 26.
Her funeral is scheduled for Friday, October 23, at 2pm at Darlington Crematorium.
